"In 1997 when we were planning the 150th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Pewsey Vale Vineyard we held a tasting from our museum of a selection of wines from the 60's - 90's. I was fascinated to taste a spatlese (sic) Riesling that was made in 1979. At 10% alcohol and 20g/L of sugar, with 18 years of bottle age (under Stelvin) the wine was still looking fresh and balanced, without obvious sugar but gorgeous fruit intensity. It was evident this was a style the Vineyard could produce well.
With this wine still in mind we commenced a programme in 2004 to make an early harvest wine from the Pewsey Vale Vineyard. The aim was to make a wine with hallmarks of what we know Pewsey Vale Riesling is, yet with lower alcohol and a fine balance of natural acid and residual fruit sugar." Louisa Rose, Winemaker
